MEMANGGIL.CO - The Acting Head of the Public Works and Spatial Planning Department (DPUPR) of Blora Regency, Nidzamudin Al Hudda, through the Head of the Water Resources Division (SDA) of DPUPR, Surat, revealed the main challenges faced by his institution in maintaining irrigation canals.

According to Surat, limited budget is the main obstacle in repairing damaged irrigation networks.

"We manage 183 Irrigation Areas (DI) and our budget allocation is very limited. We can only carry out routine activities," he said to the media, as written on Monday (February 10, 2025).

Surat explained that if the irrigation network suffers moderate to severe damage, his party must carry out rehabilitation efforts. However, the required costs are not insignificant, but rather substantial.

How DPUPR Overcomes the Challenge

To address this issue, the Blora DPUPR implements a collaborative system in irrigation management.

"We involve the community, especially farmers, to actively participate in maintaining the irrigation network. They are the ones who benefit the most," he explained.

He hopes that farmers will become more aware of the importance of regular irrigation maintenance. For example, before the planting season, farmers are expected to provide labor support for irrigation maintenance. "In return, the Blora DPUPR will provide financial assistance in the form of meal allowances as a token of appreciation to the farmers. This is one of our efforts to maintain the irrigation canals," he added.

Furthermore, Surat revealed that every year, the DPUPR plans a program to improve the capacity of damaged or old irrigation networks.

"We always conduct surveys of irrigation areas with potential. Priority areas must be managed well to improve performance and agricultural production," he said.

Importance of Farmer Awareness in Irrigation Water Distribution

Surat also emphasized the importance of farmer awareness in irrigation water distribution, which is also a main focus of the DPUPR.

According to Surat, fair and equitable water distribution will greatly impact agricultural success.

"We hope that farmers have high awareness to support fair water distribution, which can increase agricultural production," he concluded.
