MEMANGGIL.CO - The Blora Regency Department reaffirmed its commitment to supporting the preservation of local languages and cultures as part of efforts to maintain Indonesia's diversity.
Slamet Dwi Cahyono, Head of Elementary Education Development at the Blora Education Department, stated that local languages and cultures are crucial pillars in strengthening the nation's multicultural identity.
"Local languages and cultures are the main supporters of the national culture, which is multiculturally diverse. If local languages become extinct, local cultures will also disappear, and so will the spirit of Bhineka Tunggal Ika that exists in the nation's soul," Slamet said to the media, as written on Saturday, February 22, 2025.
Slamet emphasized the importance of teaching mother tongues to young generations. Besides introducing languages, local languages also contain noble values that play a role in shaping students' characters.
"As a mother tongue, local languages must be taught from an early age, because these languages become the driving force behind cultural and character values," he said.
Slamet further explained that the Ministry of Education and Culture (Kemendikbud) has launched Merdeka Belajar Episode 17 with the theme Revitalization of Local Languages. This program aims to preserve and promote local languages and cultures throughout Indonesia.
In line with this, Abdul Mu'ti, Director General of Islamic Education at Kemendikbud, also reaffirmed his commitment to celebrating International Mother Language Day (HBII).
"We fully support the activities and programs carried out by the Language Development and Cultivation Agency, as part of our efforts to preserve local languages," said Abdul Mu'ti.
The launch of Merdeka Belajar Episode 17 is proof that preserving local languages and cultures is not only a local responsibility but also part of a national program that continues to be promoted to strengthen Indonesia's diversity.
